David asks, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place?” Not just anyone can walk into the presence of the Holy God. To be qualified, one must have a pure heart—someone who treasures God above all and seeks to please Him through a life of integrity. “Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.” God is always looking for those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2 Chronicles 16:9).
God taught Jacob late in life to be pure hearted. His name means “grasper,” and as a young man, he lived up to it—sneaky, manipulative, always looking for an advantage. But as God wrestled with Jacob, Jacob changed. Jacob no longer used God to get blessings; he began to see God as the ultimate blessing. Those who belong to the Seek God’s Face generation believe the same: God is the supreme blessing. They say, “Above all else, I want to know God,” and they resolve to please Him with clean hands and a pure heart.
