Lust vs. Purity

Service Type:

Worship Songs: Stand In Your Love, Raise A Hallelujah, Faithful To The End, You Deserve It All

Sermon Notes:

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” ~ Matthew 5:8

  • Lust is represented by the cow and the color blue
  • Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body
  • Lust is sinful because it puts personal gratification over God’s glory and objectifies your neighbor
  • Lust is not sex and purity is not abstinence. As lust is craving your own gratification above all else, purity is the uncompromised desire for God's glory and your neighbor's blessing, whether infidelity or chastity.

Before you get into lust, get into sin! What is sin and why are we talking about it? If you have a personal story of struggle, or victory, in the area of lust, we encourage you to share your wisdom or your need for support.

Read Matthew 5:8, 27-30. What does it mean to be pure in heart and to see God? Jesus is using hyperbole. A blind person can still. So what is the spiritual surgery that Jesus asks of us?

"Get God. Get Filled. Get Help."  If lust has a grip on you, first get back to God and repent. Second, get filled using HALT: temptation sets in when we are hungry, angry, tired and lonely. Third, get help with a support group, accountability, and external (online) controls. You can't do this alone, and you don't have to!
