Do You Love Me?
Connection Group Questions:
Read John 21:1-19
“I’m going to fish.” What do you think Peter is feeling at this moment? Have you ever been “stuck in moment?” What is harder for you: believing in Jesus or believing in yourself? "The other disciples went with him." Have you ever had friends go with you onto the boat of your despair? Why do you think Jesus asks Peter the question, “Do you love me?” three times? What's going on here? Reflect on the three points of the message: Jesus is more ready to forgive us than we are to forgive ourselves. Sometimes we need to go through it to get past it. Are you ready to be called by a new name?
Looking ahead to Peter’s life we see that he did get past this moment, he did follow Jesus, and he became the rock that helped start the church. Toward the end of his life he writes this about his and our identity in Jesus…
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” ~ 1 Peter 2:9
What do you have to leave in the past so that you might become this chosen, royal, holy people declaring His marvelous light?
