For just as each of us has one body with many members,
and these members do not all have the same function,
so in Christ we,
though many, form one body,
and each member belongs to all the others.
Romans 12:4-5
Many will remember the old advertising campaign,
"Membership has its privileges."
We know that in belonging to Christ
we have many privileges-
Salvation.
Eternity.
Fruits and gifts of the Spirit...
But we also have many joyful responsibilities-
We are a part of the body of Christ,
and we belong to one another.
This Sunday we look into the joy of Membership in the Body of Christ.
Belonging.
It speaks of something deep within us.
The need to have a people, a place, a purpose.
The need to be part of something bigger than our own lives,
The need to be seen.
The need to be vital.
Belonging does for us what soil does for seeds- It grounds us, nurtures us, and frees us to blossom.
Far too many live without belonging-
They are isolated, estranged and disconnected.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
