God is Green, Week 1
“The same God who created our earth, our galaxy, our entire universe, decided His creation needed you too!”
As we begin our series “God is Green” we start with beginnings- namely, the beginning of creation. God is eternal. Without beginning and without end. But not so the creation. God spoke, and the universe was formed.
As we turn our attention toward God our creator and our role as stewards I encourage you t0o lay the foundation with three action steps:
First, read through Genesis 1-2. Read the story of creation. Write down all the questions it raises for you. But don’t miss the point of what is says for all that it does not answer- here we have a God who creates a world for us to live and work and commune with Himself.
Second, read Psalm 104. Preferably go read this Psalm out in creation and then add your own verses. How do you see God’s glory reflected in the creation?
Third, do something green. Set to memory the 5 R’s and do something “green” this week: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Rot, Recycle.
Refuse: Just say no. Don’t buy the new garment. Don’t buy another pre-packaged snack. Just refuse. Step out ot the cycle of consuming and see if you even miss the purchase.
Reduce: Reduce your driving by combining errands or car pooling. Reduce your waste by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables.
Reuse: Don’t throw away the bike, fix it. Don’t let that jacket collect dust in your closet, give it to someone who needs it.
Rot: Start composting.
Recycle: Enough said. Just make the effort to sort your garbage and recycle everything you can.
