Five Resolutions for Life
Christ followers are called to be a people of resolve. We should make decisions, and commitments, and stick to them. Our lives have direction. We let our yes be yes, and our no be no (Matthew 5:37).
But not all resolutions need to be huge, dramatic, or painstakingly poured over. Sometimes we just reaffirm resolutions in the major areas of life:
Faith
Finances
Fitness
Formation (Character)
Family and Friends
You should always have some faith resolutions- worship weekly. Read my bible 5 days a week. Keep a prayer journal. Listen to only worship music for 30 days… This year I’m keeping a journal, writing each day as a chapter telling the story of what God is doing in my life.
You should have some financial resolutions- get out of debt. Stay out of debt. Increase my giving to 15%. Save for a family mission trip… This year it is stay the course and save for college! Very simple. Simple is good.
Fitness resolutions- yes, God gave you a body and you should steward this gift for His glory. Walk. Bike. Run a marathon. Join a club… Fitness is never an issue for me. Being active is my happy place. This year I’m doing a 6 stage bike race that will also be my adventure for the year.
Formation. In what areas do you want to grow your character? I like to have a list of seven words (one for each day of the week) to help be become more the man I want to be. Mine for this year are- joyful, patient, kind, present, available, wise and content.
Family and Friends. To whom do you want to grow closer? Name them. Tell them. Make a plan. Text them. Call them. do it! My reminder this year, “The people in your life are not in the way of your life, they are your life!”
I encourage you to keep is simple, and keep it in front of you daily. Use the alliteration to help you remember your resolution(s) in each area- Faith. Finance. Fitness. Formation. Family and Friends.
What are your resolutions in these five areas?
